National Doughnut Day

100 years of history!

2017 marks the anniversary of WWI where donut lassies first appeared, giving troops donuts. What we now call "Donut Day" began here in Chicago in 1938.

National Doughnut Day, celebrated on the first Friday of June, was first created in honor of The Salvation Army “Doughnut Girls” who served along the front lines during WWI and WWII, giving soldiers free coffee and doughnuts. The Salvation Army commemorates this occasion by raising support for their continued ministries for families and individuals in need in our local community.
